Our Background
HOW WE GOT HERE
The mission of this student organization shall be to educate members on blockchain technologies -- including cryptocurrencies, crypto-economics, distributed ledger technologies, trust-minimized transactions – their socioeconomic effects, and their application beyond internet networks. UMBCC will help promote open discussions exploring and educating members on the development of Blockchain technologies, envision the possibilities for these technologies, and articulate a role for BCC in promoting the understanding and use of blockchain. Where possible, BCC will also extend these functions to the University community and the public, though its primary focus will remain on its student members. BCC will remain a forum for students to discuss blockchain technologies.

Introduction to Cryptocurrencies
Above is a photo of the infamous Dogecoin logo. Originally made as a meme but recently has become one of the most prominent cryptocurrencies. Introduction to Blockchain
Blockchain is the backbone of all Cryptocurrencies. It was originally made by scientists to make sure people couldn't alter or change information. The goal of the peer to peer lending idea went mostly unnoticed until cryptocurrencies arrived. If you're interested in learning more, click the link below!
I joined the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency club because I am interested in the development of cryptocurrency and it's impact on our economy. I truly believe cryptocurrency is the future of finance.

Cryptos really do feel like the "next big thing." Being able to work with so many people who have similar interests as well as different areas of knowledge (and usually a better understanding) has been instrumental to me. The club has been a great tool for people interested in cryptocurrency since it's foundation!

I joined the blockchain club to be a part of a community that shared a similar interest as me. I enjoy the ability to leave each meeting having learned something new regarding the cryptocurrency field. I also appreciate the variety of topics covered from the macroeconomic ideas to the computer science principals that govern cryptocurrencies.
